Theo Fennell exploded our perceptions with his extraordinary jewellery exhibition, Show Off! held in Association with the Royal Academy of Arts, at 6 Burlington Gardens, London from the 24th–28th September 2007.
Tracey Emin, Dinos Chapman, Courtney Love, Elizabeth Hurley, William Boyd, David Linley, Barry Humphries, Ruby Wax, Hugh Grant and Bob Geldof were amongst the eclectic mix who joined Theo to celebrate this dazzling event.
‘Behind all the best jewellery lies a story well told” Fennell explains. “People reacting to a Viking ring in the British Museum are not cooing over the preciousness of the stones… what’s captured their imagination is that the ring has depth and history. All great jewellery is necessarily talismanic, a keepsake that transcends generations and it must be beautifully designed and made.’
With more than 70 installations and exhibits; light boxes and Dioramas, oil paintings and giant models, a life-seized guillotine and an electric chair, displayed in 5 exhibit halls… Show Off! represented the skill and craftsmanship that is behind all beautiful jewellery. We hope those who saw Show Off! looked at jewellery in a different way, and saw the hours of thought and patience behind the designs.
We hope Show Off! shocked and astounded, amazed and excited, and even made some cry a little! Maybe it was the sentiment and emotion that surrounds all of Theo’s pieces that provokes these reactions.
Before Show Off! goes on tour to Dubai, Russia and the States etc, we shall be showcasing some of the installations and pieces in our stores across the UK. |
