Carpe Diem

|

15-12-2010

Seize the day; sound advice and we all should. This collection had been designed to be talismanic and bear some pithy and profound sayings from thousands of years ago. We have used really unusual rounded briolette cut stones and combined these with enamel detail and carved motifs to give, what we think is, a timeless and slightly mystical feeling to bold pieces.

It allows each wearer to find a shape, a colour combination and a motto that is apt for them so that it really becomes theirs.

The amount of detail makes each of the pieces individual; jewellery as it should be with meaning and resonance.

The horsewoman in the picture really has seized the day and much more besides it would seem.

Carpe Diem Rings

06-12-2010

The workshop are crafting some Carpe Diem rings at the moment, and they are indeed seizing the day and their files and buffers too. Their extraordinary talents never fail to delight me and to watch an idea I’ve had become a glittering reality is extremely moving. Here is the ring that ‘Mark’ is just finishing. Extraordinary…

Touche Bois

23-10-2010

‘Touch Wood’ you say for luck and then wildly look around for a piece of wood; often there is none and a fiasco ensues ending with a tap to the head. The ancients had no such problem as they would wear a piece about their person - often spuriously claiming to be from the Holy Cross itself as a talisman the touching to ward off bad luck.

We have revived this, literally charming, practice by designing pendants for men and women, as well as cufflinks and buttons, using wood from interesting places and hand mounted in gold or silver. We have managed to get wood from, amongst other places, the stage of The Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the Old Vic as well as HMS Victory and the Cutty Sark.......we have also used wood with special meaning to the wearer taken from a favourite fallen tree, a yacht or a fishing boat, from the door of an old house and even from a much loved cricket bat.

We have done a large set of these using wood from a stage as a present for everyone who had been involved to celebrate a show’s long run and from the deck of a yacht to celebrate its win.......what a good idea I hear you say!
We’ve shown a couple here.

The starting price for the collection is: £1150

Stockist number is 020 7591 5000

Bees Etc

|

23-09-2010

What strangely ambivalent little things bees are; we know they sting but we love them just the same.

Their buzz is the harbinger of a lazy summer’s day, yet they are so industrious. And what a job they do! Pretty flower to flower pollinating or making honey; what a combination, sex and sweetness with a sting in the tail.

We love this paradox , we love their shape and think that for genuinely pretty jewellery the bee is a classic symbol.

Once Summer days seemed swarming with bees. Not anymore… where have they gone? It’s so sad to think our busy little friend is disappearing along with so much we love in the world. This must stop! Wear your bee with pride!

We will soon be adding to the bees with a dragonfly, which has its own sad ephemeral story, the butterfly, romantic emblem of metamorphosis, and the dove, herald of peace and harmony. They are all exquisite shapes, and together they are the birds and the bees.

This collection is designed to be uplifting and delicate, wearable and sentimental. It can be as formal or informal as you want, as well as being collectable. From a single bee bracelet to a big honeycomb cuff or little dragonfly earrings to a magnificent pair of bumble bee earrings and briolette drop earrings there is a spectrum as broad as nature as nature herself.

Symbol of happy industry, maker of honey and naughty little sex pot;

What’s not to like about the bee?

TF Explorers

|

15-09-2010

The intrepid bunch of TF explorers are off and searching for the perfectly designed present. They are, as we speak, scanning the globe.

They had a few false starts and appeared in some inappropriate places but, bravely, they carry on.

We very much hope that, in time for our Christmas windows and cards going out, they will arrive at the perfect place where the perfect present is to be found.

You can cheer them on in our shop windows or on our website and follow their progress on this blog.

They are a brave bunch.

Marian

|

03-09-2010

We are just making a ring from an opal we have carved into a skull. It is surrounded by vine leaves, made of gold, so it looks like it has been gradually grown over many a year.

The girls in the studio have named this skull Marian - I know not why. Unless there is a Robin I haven’t yet met. It appears they name all the skulls.

Alex in the workshop has worked for me now for over half of his life - I think he is having a crisis of that kind all us more mature men have. I shall give him Marian to make so he can truly say "I made Marion!"
