Founded to regulate the craft or trade of the goldsmith, the Goldsmiths’ Company has been responsible since 1300 for testing the quality of gold, silver and, from 1975, platinum articles. Theo is a Liveryman and some of our staff are Freemen.
We give an annual award for best Apprentice and Master which is given at the annual award ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall.
THE GOLDSMITHS’ COMPANY
The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, more commonly known as the Goldsmiths’ Company, is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London and received its first royal charter in 1327. This is the prime trade organisation, from which we hire our apprentice and for which Theo does a lot of judging, talks and mentoring.
2018 Master & Apprentice Award
The 2018 Master and Apprentice Award was given to Matthew Hart for his Samurai Desk Seal, whose master is Emmet Smith.
Oliver Davies received a highly commended Award for his Butterfly brooch.
